Houston Futures will host the gathering: City-Making in the 21st Century – Designing Urban Futures this April 12th and 13th.
Students, faculty, alums (Master’s & Certificate), and their guests are invited to attend the event. We’ll have dinner and drinks on Friday evening, and all-day meeting on Saturday at the University of Houston, followed by an evening get-together at the Hines’ pool.
This year includes a special feature as alum and Adjunct Faculty Cindy Frewen-Wellner leads the Saturday meeting on City Making in the 21st Century: Designing Urban Futures. We’ll have a series of brief presentations in the morning, each followed by discussion.
Speakers and topics include:
- Oliver Markley – Role of Images in Cities of the Future
- Lee Shupp – A Street View of Cities of the Future (city as community)
- Todd Gentzel – Scenarios on the Future of Houston
- Rives Taylor – Gulf Coast Resilient City Design: from Buildings to District
- Cindy Frewen-Wellner – Great Urban Divides: Making cities fast and slow, hard and soft
In the afternoon, a sense-making discussion will lead us into an Open Space format where participants are welcome to offer follow-up discussions, and a closing plenary will transition to Dr. Hines’ pool.
