We all have that story. You know the one. How did you become a futurist? I think it is one of the first questions we are asked when we begin the Houston Foresight program in Intro. The answers are as varied as the diversity of the people who claim the title of futurist.
Topics scattered among the Futures 2050 track can be divided first into megatrends. Web 3.0, De-Fi, and DAOs create one, the metaverse and tokenization, another, and QX (quantum experience) is a third.
That is what futurists do. We build fields where futures can come true. We don’t create the futures, we help find the driving forces and trends and help others navigate the inherent uncertainties of futures.
The public is already curious about futurists; they just don’t know it. The future is an inherently sexy subject. Everybody wants to see into the future...
What did the most successful leadership teams do during the pandemic to pivot, innovate, and thrive in an era of uncertainty?
In Planning Matter, we are left with a vision of how “things” influence and shape human action, but not how we might all negotiate among ourselves if these things actually possess some level of sentience. Perhaps technology will never reach this level, but it is intriguing to ponder the possibilities.
