The Hawaii Research Center for Futures Studies within the Department of Political Science at The University of Hawaii at Manoa is hosting the 2012 Manoa Futures Symposium – Emerging Futurists event on Friday, November 30, 2012. The symposium is graduate student centric, they envision the “symposium as an opportunity for nascent futurists to share their work, discuss issues in the field, and network with other up and coming futurists.”
They ask (topics are not limited to the listed categories),
- What attributes will future(s) futurists need as the 21st century progresses?
- What emerging issues will shape the future(s)? What are the futures of Futures?
- Will the dawn of big data make futurists’ job easier or will they go the way of the dodo?
- Can predictive analytics find a place within scenario modeling across various time horizons (30, 50, 100+ years)?
- Will emerging futurists need to emphasize quantitative methods more than qualitative ones as more accurate and precise data sets become available?
