Peter Bishop traveled to Bucharest, Romania in June to share work that he and Jim Dator from the University of Hawaii at Manoa, and other faculty from foresight programs around the world have been working on for the last year. Called the University Foresight Network (UFN), this loose confederation of academic programs spent the last year investigating the extent to which the programs were teaching the same things about foresight. In addition to Houston and Hawaii (the two UHs), participants in the Network included Peter Hayward from Swinburne University of Technology in Melbourne, Australia, Jay Gary from Regent University in Virginia Beach, Virginia, and Greg van Alstyne from the Ontario College of Art and Design in Toronto, Canada, along with their colleagues and others from different programs around the world.
Dr. Bishop presented the results along with Jim Dator (seated in the front row) at the 40th Anniversary meeting of the World Futures Studies Federation. In brief, the five programs found a great deal of overlap in what they were teaching, encouraging them to proceed next year to define a common core of material for themselves and others to follow.
